Thomas Montanus (1617 - 1685) was a physician who practiced his craft in Bruges, where he gained widespread recognition for publishing a book that thoroughly explored the characteristics of the plague. A bust honoring this accomplished doctor now stands proudly in the courtyard of the historic Saint John's Hospital in Bruges, and it's a faithful replica of an original bronze sculpture created to commemorate the birthplace of Dr. Montanus, Diksmuide.
