Thomas Minis Brio Style Train Tracks
thingiverse
I couldn't locate any printable tracks for Thomas Minis trains, so I decided to create some and learn more about OpenSCAD along the way. These started as modifications of remixed projects, with code lifted directly where necessary, but most things ended up adjusted or rewritten as the project progressed. There are many modern Brio pieces recreated here, along with a few non-standard parts, due to my print bed's limited size of 120x120. Larger parts are available in full size and split into smaller pieces for easier printing. I tried to name the parts consistently, conveying adequate information about them through section separation using underscores (_) and dashes (-). Sections marked with an asterisk (*) are not always present. (PartGroup)(PartSubType)*(SplitPartIdentifier)(Dimensions)(BrioIdentifier).stl For example: QuadCurve-Cross_SmR_PART_Xof4_L1.5-C.25_X * PartGroup: QuadCurve-Cross * PartSubType: SmR (small radius) * SplitPartIdentifier: PART_Xof4 (broken into 4 equal parts) * Dimensions: L1.5-C.25 (straight Length - Circumference) * BrioIdentifier: X All dimensions are defined at the top of the SCAD file, but for naming purposes, the important values are: * L - Length = 110mm * LgR - Large Radius Curve = 150mm * SmR - Small Radius Curve = 67.5mm I test printed many parts along the way, and the following pieces have been successfully printed in their final form: Acc_Connector Curve_SmR_L-Str_L.75-C.125_O1-P1 Curve_SmR_R-Str_L.75-C.125_O1-P1 DoubleCurve_SmR_L-R-Str_PART_1of3_L1.5-C.25_T DoubleCurve_SmR_L-R-Str_PART_2of3_L1.5-C.25_T Curve_Double_L_LgR-SmR_C.125-C.25 QuadCurve-Cross_SmR_PART_Xof4_L1.5-C.25_X (Printed 4) Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Select Mini Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Resolution: .2 - .4 Infill: 20% Notes: Most parts can be printed flat, bottom down, without support or raft, except for the following exceptions: Acc_Connector: I printed in groups of 8 or more together on a raft. Acc_Buffer: Printed bottom down, with supports everywhere. A couple were placed between the horizontal bars. The pieces were pushed right out with a screwdriver. Assembly: If you find the connectors to be a bit tight when pushing them down on a piece, try pushing the connector in from the bottom or the piece down onto the connector.
