I highly recommend using this creation from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3465445 for most common parts. I recently needed a quick and simple third hand for soldering, so I created one using spare parts I had on hand. To make it, I used a M6 screw and nut, a small wood screw, some twisted solid core wire, an IKEA table clamp, and two alligator clips. I also added braided sleeving for aesthetic purposes, which isn't strictly necessary, as well as shrink tubing and felt.
