(thinner) iPhone 5 gear case with Geneva mechanism
thingiverse
This remix takes inspiration from the ingenious iPhone 5 gear case by Brandonw6, which in turn drew from the groundbreaking iPhone 4 gear case by QuentinT. I have reimagined the case to be thinner and seamless along its side edges, boasting a uniform reduction of 2mm throughout, alongside a compactness enhancement of 5mm. The removal of the seam offers an improved design aesthetic. If you had previously obtained or printed this case, it would be wise to download the revised version and take note of the updates. Several modifications have been incorporated to optimize functionality: the pins now possess increased diameter to ensure accurate placement, while the Geneva driver gear's tooth count was elevated to 35 to achieve perfect synchronization with the Geneva wheel. Testing revealed excellent results on standard MakerBot2 settings when employing PLA material (a picture serves as proof). It is advisable to review printing and assembly instructions carefully. **Instructions for creation:** Print both the case back and case frame using rafts in horizontal orientation, paying close attention to 'ears' that prevent warping. Alternatively, all gears and pins can be printed together on a single raft (depending on color combinations required). For maximum compatibility, print each element multiple times according to chosen hues. **Step-by-Step Assembly:** Begin by firmly placing the case back inside its corresponding frame, with a light touch for adjustments as necessary. A sanding step may prove beneficial to achieve perfect alignment. Press the case back snugly into position against small stops found at its base and verify that flat surfaces face interior areas housing phones, and that camera holes align under notch regions for power button placement. Secure superglue along seams connecting frame's backing to the case after back has been accurately placed within its boundaries; ensure all four corners receive application before allowing adhesive to dry. Post-drying, you should verify phone fit. For precise installation of gear assemblies onto ebacks, gently press their respective pins through individual gears and securely fasten within predrilled openings located on both case and gear. The presence of loose holes might necessitate some fine-tuning with a sharp tool or small knife. Once complete and secure in their position, carefully examine all gears meshed perfectly; perform quick revolutions using provided gear chuck to confirm correct movement is taking place. Be cautious to press pin into designated spaces so they fit securely; you'll also apply tiny amount superglue at their rear side following mesh test has concluded, completing last step before use
