Thinner case for TM1638 LED&Key and microcontroller
thingiverse
This project is for the [TM1638](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093SQLCLK). The ESPHome code for this project is [located in a gist](https://gist.github.com/kdorff/396a11b5bb29142f09c1f52242c546e5). **WARNING** TM1638 boards are not all the same. At the time of this posting, this case fits the TM1638 listing **mentioned above** but didn't fit another listing I ordered. I still like my previous remix of the TM1638 - this thinner version doesn't necessarily accommodate the ElectroCookie PCB or pin headers, but if you are willing to solder the microcontroller directly to the TM1638 (using solid-core wires), this is a more svelte case. I assume you are using a micro-usb cable to power the microcontroller. Power comes in from the bottom. Need another side? Let me know. The case uses countersunk [m3 screws](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CYNKLT2) to affix the lid to the case, instead of glue or tape. Lid and Base to attach using four m3 screws (12mm is about perfect). This design requires m3 heat inserts in the Base. It uses [these m3 heat inserts](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BJD3W4X). You can use any microcontroller you like. I've used it with both the [ESP32 D1 Mini](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08L79192D) and the [ESP8266 D1 Mini](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081PX9YFV) with good success.
