I recently encountered an issue finding a suitable mount for the USB-C mod on my T430. After trying a mount designed for the X230, which features the same plug, I realized it wouldn't fit properly on the T430. Therefore, I created a custom mount from scratch. When printing the plug, make sure to orient it with the taper facing up. If necessary, use a flat screwdriver to gently push it into place while keeping the connector aligned with the board. Ensure that the plug reaches the board securely and doesn't leave any gaps. If you find it difficult to secure, try adjusting the position slightly. To complete this mod, you'll need to acquire a ZYPDS USB-C 20V PD module similar to the one available on Aliexpress (https://it.aliexpress.com/item/4000557859597.html). You might need to trim the module slightly with a Dremel in the corner where it touches the heatsink fan. After desoldering the original cables from the connector, I soldered them onto the ZYPDS module. It's essential to add a 10k resistor to ground on the signal pin, as described on ThinkWiki (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Power_Connector#Signal_Pin). Due to limited space, I used an 0805 SMD resistor, which proved challenging to solder in place. To make life easier, consider using a 1/4W THT resistor instead. Keep in mind that this mod may not fully comply with USB-C standards, particularly when it comes to negotiating power levels. The ThinkPad might only be able to negotiate 9V or lower if the PSU or power bank doesn't support 20V. In such cases, the laptop may not charge or power on properly.
