Thinkpad Docking Station Lock #4337 Replacement
thingiverse
I picked up a Thinkpad Docking Station (4337) for my T410 laptop at a great price because it lacked keys. Since blanks are impossible to find in the UK, I decided to 3D print one myself. Unfortunately, the tolerances and dimensions were too precise for the printer to work effectively. Then, an idea struck me - the lock on my desk at work was similar in size and eBay offered comparable locks after a quick search. I purchased one from this link: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=333342225146&view=all&tid=1744950759014 There are many similar locks available on the site, all looking quite identical. To replace the black plastic cam unit, I designed a new switch cam that fits onto the back of the lock. The dimensions are close to what's required, so it was a good starting point. I printed the design in PLA at 0.2mm with supports and some filing was necessary to get it working smoothly. Overall, I'm pleased with the outcome. However, disassembling and reassembling the docking station to fit the new cam was a frustrating experience. It's definitely a process that requires patience and skill. This is one of my first designs using OpenSCAD, so I'm not claiming expertise in this area. Feel free to use the design as you see fit, just be sure to give credit where it's due. I've included two photos of the original lock and cam for reference purposes.
