ThinkFun Parametric Connector Library
thingiverse
The spark of thinkFun ignites a world of building possibilities by providing an adaptable set of construction tools that seamlessly interact with the everyday in exciting ways. To unleash your creativity all you have to do is think fun! A parametric thinkFun Connector Library was crafted to simplify creating custom connectors for everyone. I deconstructed thinkFun's open source connector STL into a cap and midsection, then rebuilt it with any number of holes to produce classic thinkFun connectors of various lengths. True openness isn't achieved until its versatility in customization is realized. With the classic connector constructed, the midsections and end caps could be redesigned and reassembled into innovative thinkFun connectors such as The Clip Connector. A versatile connector with a clip on one side was designed for easily attaching cardboard pieces. The Slot Connector boasts a horizontal slot through the center. Visualizing a multitude of these connected by fabric to form a loop is breathtaking – perhaps even creating a functional tank tread. The Lego Connector seamlessly integrates basic lego-connectivity into your designs, enabling mini-figures to effortlessly ride along and adding structural support with Lego plates. For creating angle brackets in rigid structures like chassis, The Bent Connector shines. As a shock absorber for vehicles or a spring action for catapults, The Flexible Connector demonstrates its adaptability. The Narrow Connector is ideal for instances where space is restricted – providing a slender alternative to the classic connector. The Grooved Connector introduces mechanical motion into your designs with grooves instead of holes – perfect for simulating train wheels or robot legs. The scope for creativity within this library knows no bounds, awaiting only the imagination to realize innovative connections such as curved connectors with variable arc lengths and hole counts.
