ThinkFun Paddle Wheel
thingiverse
This project starts with a modified version of the large wheel from the ThinkFun construction kit, differing only in its eight slots where card or plastic can be inserted.\nEight slots allow users to create different models, such as paddles, water wheels, or even wind-powered projects.\nCombining two wheels increases model building possibilities for larger parts of cardboard, and using plastic strips cut from a PET soda bottle powers water-based projects.\nThe test print turned out well but exhibited issues with very thin card or paper that were quickly fixed by adding some folded support to each piece.\nPrint settings: Rafts: Anything works fine Supports: Just ignore this option Resolution: 0.35mm layer thickness, 0.5mm nozzle diameter Infill percentage: 20% After the print is complete, sanding the edges with fine-grained sandpaper eases issues caused by tightly packed slots. This project started from a pre-made large wheel file that I modified to include paddles for sketching purposes.\nEight slots offer versatility and multiple use scenarios; it originally intended for only six slots before upgrading to eight due to added usability.\nThe entire process of creating took four revisions; the design was perfect after first try test print results, showing no further changes were needed, validating initial decision.\nExperiment with model in Sketchup beforehand as an absolute essential step before 3D printing to maximize optimal functionality and overall success.
