Thin Wallet, ID Visible
thingiverse
I created a custom folding wallet case from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:123670 and used it as my everyday wallet for several weeks. During that time, I added a rubber band to hold my cash in place and thought it would be convenient to see my ID without opening the wallet. I dusted off my Blender skills and made some modifications. I designed a window for my ID and created slits on the side for the rubber band, which was previously encouraging the wallet to pop open on its own. This modified version still holds four cards in one side and offers the option of cash or additional cards on the other. The hinge prints in place and is flexible immediately after printing. I printed this wallet in PLA at high quality settings, which for me means a 0.1mm layer height. You can see some of the lettering from the blue tape that transferred to the printed wallet in the pictures. This wallet should probably be printed in ABS instead. I gave a print to a friend and she left it in her car dashboard on a hot day, causing the plastic to deform and making it unusable. I haven't had this problem since I usually keep my wallet in my pocket or on my nightstand. When printed in PLA, the wallet is very tight for the first few days, but I've been using a key to shove in and twist to open it. After a few days, it becomes easy enough to open with your hands.
