They built a simple plywood case for the "thin mini ITX" 170x170mm motherboard, which has an external power supply and passive cooling. Their way of doing it is by using Asrock with Intel J1900, 8Gb RAM, 120Gb SSD + 750Gb HDD and a PCI-e wifi module. A 60mm slow fan only kicks in when the processor temperature goes above 55C (when it works hard) and data HDD gets automatically disabled when not used, making it almost quiet PC. There are some fitting options for motherboards that they used: ASRock Q1900TM-ITX ASRock J3160TM-ITX (almost no cooling needed with DDR3l memory) Asus N3050T, N3700T.
