The Game: Without looking, players must pick the correct "coins" out of a bag by feeling for the shape of the characters. Play begins with two coins. More coins are added each round. The coins represent eighteen of the highest frequency characters in Chinese. Players develop their spatial skills while having fun. Background: Research shows that gender may play a role in spatial skills, but it is also known that these skills can be trained and improved upon. To incorporate a spatial element into activities little girls already enjoy, puzzles and memory games are being used as inspiration. This game requires players to have a strong mental image and the ability to rotate it in their mind. It's an idea still in development, but others can build upon and improve it. Suitable for both boys and girls of all ages, it may be more helpful to girls due to the lack of other play incorporating spatial visualization. All children love a good story, and a well-told story makes a game that much more engaging. The story of Ban Ji and the Thieves' Purse is used to add an extra layer of fun: http://sexycyborg.net/Ban_Ji_and_the_Thieves_Purse.html Print Settings: To achieve the desired look, bronzefill was attempted but it turned out that Chinese bronzefill has no actual bronze in it - so it cannot be polished. Other bronzefill is imported, but it's a bit out of budget. If you're able to print with it, let me know; it will likely look cool. Designing This: OpenSCAD files are included so additional characters can be added as needed.
