This Neolithic long barrow is situated at the southwest end of the Dorset Cursus within Cranborne Chase. Drew and Piggott excavated it in 1933, with Alexander Kieller overseeing all survey work. The plan and sections are superimposed here to illustrate the spatial relationship between the diagrams. A detailed account of the excavation can be found in "The Excavation of Long Barrow 163a on Thickthorn Down, Dorset" by Drew and Piggott, published in the Proceedings of the Prehistoric Society, Volume 2, Part 1, in 1936.
