Thicker Dark Souls Sunlight Medal
thingiverse
My best friend was eager to receive a custom medal, but unfortunately, the outer ring kept detaching from the rest of it during printing. To resolve this issue, I added a 1mm thick backing to the design, which helped stabilize the piece. I'm using standard settings for my printer: 300 micron layer height and 0.75 mm extrusion width with a 0.6 mm nozzle diameter, all on PETG material. The original medal's diameter is approximately 2.13 inches, but I found that my printer's resolution wasn't quite up to the task at low settings. At 3 inches in size, the face started to take shape, and at 4 inches, it looked fantastic. If you're printing at a higher resolution of 200 micron, I believe the 3-inch medal would be fully detailed, and at an even finer 100 micron setting, the 2.13 inch medal should turn out beautifully. Once my friend finishes sanding and painting his medals, I'll post some photos to show off the final result.
