Theta String trigger
thingiverse
Update 2016 May: Ricoh Theta adds self-timer, making this device less essential. Press and hold WiFi button during power-up to delay picture taking for up to five seconds, giving camera time to get in position. Phone app can also select varying shutter durations. The Ricoh Theta camera captures a complete spherical panoramic image with no blind spots. Unfortunately, the trigger button is positioned extremely close to the lens, causing hand and thumb intrusion into nadir. This problem inspired me to design a smaller, more practical solution. I built a new finger trigger using my Thumb to hold the string, keeping everything neat and compact. You can view this device in action here: https://theta360.com/s/sQX4sZTsCDBLhKYJ6ZkDIKFLE Alternatively, you can also see me using a traditional String remote release solution here: https://theta360.com/s/ajQVjdKtVAy0RblQeTi92Lid6 You may notice dark blobs in one of my lenses - these are simply faulty chip particles. My New Theta S has already been preordered. To make the device even more discreet, I've applied a silver strip to the area surrounding the lens, helping to camouflage it further. When you look at the resulting image, instead of capturing camera itself, this clever reflective tape captures colors from environment. The entire project was made possible with Tinkercad software.
