The dial knob on an old hotplate in my lab gave way, forcing me to wrestle with it constantly to activate and deactivate the stirrer. A makeshift replacement part has gotten me by so far, but I'm still stuck with a primitive fix – if only I had grey filament at hand when I made it, it wouldn't be so conspicuous.
