Thermal Imploder (WIP)
thingiverse
Thermal imploder, a fictional explosive device not actually seen in any Star Wars movie. The thermal imploder is well known to players of Star Wars Battlefront as a convenient method for eliminating groups of enemies. I considered incorporating an audio component into the prop to play a sound effect a few seconds after the button is pressed. However, this approach would likely result in a less-than-ideal sound and would not be able to compete with the impressive sound effects featured in the game. As such, this version of the thermal imploder does not include any additional sounds beyond the cracking noise produced when it's sat upon. This prop has been designed with ease of access in mind by breaking it down into multiple parts that can be printed upright to enhance print quality on most printers. At its center, a 32mm hole is left open for a piece of tubing to securely hold the prop together. Both metal and plastic tubing options are suitable, although cosplayers may prefer plastic due to its lighter weight. To ensure a snug fit for the 32mm tubing, it's recommended to print the main body at 101% or even 102% scale, depending on your printer's capabilities. This thermal imploder is a non-functional prop and remains a work in progress. Even though this device is not based on any real-life explosive, I advise against leaving it unattended in public places as it may still attract unwanted attention from authorities (just like an alarm clock might). I would greatly appreciate it if you could share a photo of your print result with me. Updates: 1. The top part .stl file has been updated to improve its appearance and includes a new photo showing the updated design. 2. The "crack" between the two body parts now extends all the way around, as seen in reference images. The final product appears slightly different from the original picture, with the horizontal "crack" now extending all the way through, just like it does on the base part 3D model.
