Public artwork outside the UK National Archives in Kew is a vibrant creation that brings to life the ancient symbols found on old maps. The project's driving force was the Map and Atlas collection within The National Archives, where artists discovered a wealth of inspiration for their sculpture. The goal was simple: use these mystical devices and fantastical creatures to empower adults with experience of mental health struggles. They would craft a stunning work of art that would become a permanent fixture in the grounds of The National Archives. The project unfolded with a series of workshops at The National Archives, where conservators, map experts, and members of the Outreach team guided service users from Workshop & Company through the creative process. Together, they brought their unique perspectives to life, weaving a narrative that would captivate all who visit the archives.
