Theo Jansen Strandbeest Desktop Mechanism
prusaprinters

This desktop moving sculpture adds beauty and interest to the daily grind. Based on the ratios of Theo Jansen's Strandbeest creations (http://www.strandbeest.com/), this mechanism is an interactive way of visualizing the motion of a single set of legs from Jansen's massive creations.

The pair of legs is driven by a 2:1 ratio gear set. Joints are held together with PLA spikes (Technique by Jason Welsh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqNxYHWpYko), and the design uses snap-fits whenever possible. Glue is needed on the tabs connecting the stand to the base and when bonding the gears to their respective shafts.

A full bill of materials and exploded view are uploaded for assembly. The two sides are not mirrored, so keep track of parts as you print and assemble.
