The Working Planetary Pocket Watch

Just wanted to say first that, although the pocket watch is animated and works, I recommend going through the annotations first so you know what’s happening, then watching the animation after. I don’t have too many characters to use here, so most of the explanation for this is found with the model in the viewer. The short version is, this is something I’ve been working on for quite a few months that is basically a pocket watch that uses a 3D model of the earth and moon to tell time and calendar dates. It’s also based on a real system used thousands of years ago. The really cool thing about it is the only part that is animated by hand is the earth’s orbit around the sun. All the other animations are then mathematically calculated from this using the real data I found online. So in theory, as long as you knew where everything should start at to sync it with the real world, you could actually use the watch to tell time, since it uses the real data. That’s everything, enjoy! Note: Made with Blender.
