The Woodworkers Rod Holder
grabcad
This rod holder design is made from sustainable materials with minimum production costs, inspired by the woodworker's cam clamp. It's simple and effective, providing clamping force without damaging surfaces. For different canoe styles, adjustments can be made to ensure its universality. The pitch and yaw adjustment of the rod was carefully considered for a compact, rigid system. Manufacturing notes include producing the clamp body from wood using a CNC router table, ensuring optimal strength with grain direction parallel to the jaws. Cam pins are made of stainless steel or aluminum with slight interference fits between parts. The cams themselves are also wooden and produced on a CNC router. The swivel pin is made of stainless steel or aluminum, requiring minimal machining. The swivel plate can be produced on a CNC router or manually. Lastly, the rod holder, while challenging to produce, can easily adapt to changes in manufacturing with critical features made by a CNC router. Thank you for considering this design.
