The Wise Planter
thingiverse
The Wise Planter is a post-smart planter that relies solely on basic physics to assess the needs of your favorite desktop plants without any need for gadgets, sensors, or batteries. No complicated technology required - just simple, effective design. **Update: 12/15/17** In celebration of being featured as 3D Printing Today's thing of the week, I've uploaded the Voronoi Base that can be swapped out with the Wave Base to offer an extra-special 3D print-y geometry. Check out the 3D Printing Today podcast for more details. The inner pot sits on a spring that rests against the outer base. As the soil loses moisture, the pot slowly rises while the base remains in place, revealing an adjustable indicator ring that reminds you to water your plants. The inner pot measures about 4 inches by 4 inches by 3.5 inches (LxWxH), and the planter totals 4.75 inches by 4.75 inches by 6 inches at maximum height. You can print all parts using PLA, PET, or ABS - choose your favorite rigid polymer. If you're interested in learning more about the design process used to create this innovative planter, I've blogged extensively about it!
