Here's an update from Jon dated August 23, 2015. He successfully printed a prototype that worked efficiently. Minor modifications were made to the clips for smoother fitting. The revised files have been uploaded and a video of the prototype is available at https://youtu.be/8kalDv0DraQ. Jon's inspiration came while browsing Kickstarter, where he stumbled upon Snotbot, a drone that assists in whale research. He noticed the scientists were using unprofessional and inefficient methods for collecting whale snot. This led him to think of a better device that could be 3D printed, fitting within the category of monitoring or tracking animals. His design consists of two parts, including a center-mounted plate with female clip receptacles and a boom with a male clip. The QUASS (Quick Attachment Support System) was developed for easy attachment and detachment. Jon requests Fathom to print the prototype and test the clip mechanism. He mentions that he printed a basic prototype on his FDM printer, but altered some things in the final design. The design is compatible with a pool noodle or any other sponge with a ¾" through hole. Feel free to like, comment, and share your thoughts on this idea.
