The War Stone in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter
myminifactory
The War Stone takes its place at the edge of War Stone Lane in Birmingham's bustling Jewellery Quarter, nestled deep within the English Midlands. For thousands of years, it stood watch since the last ice age, until the surrounding city slowly closed in around it. The stone then took on a new role as a boundary marker at the intersection of the parishes of Aston, Birmingham and Handsworth. Despite its ominous name, the War Stone has no connection to conflict, thanks to an inscription etched below it that reveals its true story: "This felsite boulder was left near here by a glacier during the Ice Age, serving as a parish boundary marker at one time. It was known as the Hoar Stone, and the modern name War Stone is simply a corrupted version." A 3D scan of the stone was expertly captured using the Sony 3D Creator app on an Xperia XZ1 Compact smartphone, which accurately rendered its shape in stunning detail, just like the accompanying photo showcases.
