The Virgin and Child

myminifactory

Life-size sculptures of the Virgin and Child were abundant in the Paris area during the early 14th Century. Later, they became highly coveted by collectors. This example underwent significant restoration, likely just before arriving at the V&A in 1911. Restored areas include the head and right arm of the Virgin, as well as Christ's upper body. These are now clearly marked with white lines. The sandstone sculpture was created in Paris, France around 1300-20 and expertly restored by Henri Boutron.
