La Violoniste (The Violinist) stands 85cm tall as a bronze masterpiece crafted by Eugene Delaplanche, a renowned French sculptor. This impressive work was showcased at Sotheby's London on July 11th, 2018, during the 19th and 20th Century Sculpture sale. Originally created for The Opéra Garnier in 1878, La Violoniste eventually found its way into Carl Jacobson's collection. Delaplanche's creation is one of many copies produced from his most celebrated work. Eugene Delaplanche, born in 1836 and passing away in 1891, was a talented French sculptor who achieved great success by winning the Prix de Rome in 1864. Throughout his career, Delaplanche produced numerous iconic large-scale works, but he also demonstrated remarkable skill in crafting intricate decorations for vases, reliefs, and smaller sculptures. His artistic style is characterized by its naturalism, dignity, and simplicity, showcasing a profound mastery of technique. Delaplanche's work can be found in various institutions around the world, including 15 pieces at the Glyptothek in Copenhagen and numerous collections within French museums and churches.
