The Valentini Torso
myminifactory
This fragmentary torso was once restored with great care as Diomedes, a Greek warrior who fought in the Trojan Wars. The way it twists, however, suggests an athlete in mid-motion, throwing a discus with one leg bearing the weight and the shoulder dropped low. Some believe that the torso might be the work of Pythagoras, but this connection is based on a single reference to a passage written by Pliny. Unfortunately, we know little about where or when the sculpture was discovered; the Valentini Torso remains an enigma.
