A beloved tabletop artifact, frequently referred to as a "Stallin's lamp" or "NKVD (KGB) lamp," makes appearances in numerous films as an essential component of the workspace of a government official, or as a tool used in interrogation by the NKVD. Karbolite is remarkably similar to bakelite, the first commercially produced plastic material. The claim that it will not burn and will not melt was prominently displayed on the cover of Time Magazine in September 1924. In Russia, bakelite was synthesized in 1914. The lamp was meticulously crafted from images available online, as I never had one of my own to serve as a reference point. However, I have always been fascinated by its design and functionality. Its unique design makes it ideally suited for reading documents.
