When I started 3D prints couple years ago, name tag was my first try. With a little more expertise now, I wanted for my first post to produce a really unique name tag, robust, efficient and with many customization options. <figure class="media"><oembed url="https://youtu.be/U8_7MV0OUaw"></oembed></figure>This name tag comes in two parts:1. The base of the name tag where you put your first name / name / phone / mail.I added 2 SketchUp files where you can customize your name. You will need to have the free SketchUp extension “editable 3D Text”.Just click on the text you want to edit to select it, right click and chose Edit Text. You can change the text, of course, the height, the font but keep the extrude at 2mm.<figure class="image"><img src="https://media.printables.com/media/prints/219940/rich_content/eb21509b-9239-455a-8ae0-9e3e5c6ee8e8/sketchup_edit_text.jpg#%7B%22uuid%22%3A%225ad378c8-c381-4f74-bbc4-e839705497b4%22%2C%22w%22%3A1073%2C%22h%22%3A741%7D"></figure>There are two SketchUp files - one with your mail address on one line and one with your mail address on 2 lines (so you have more space).Once customized with your name, export the 3D model as an STL file to print.I also added an empty base if you want to use a different CAD program (Fusion or others) to add your name (and I'll try to produce an OpenScad version).2. the top of the name tag with many customized versions.I have friends who like cats, horses or even lizards, frogs or spiders but also Harry Potter,  Batman, Superman or Star Wars, music or Yoga so this is a perfect and very unique gift which will never disappoint!I gathered many 3D items I liked, most of them found on 3D sites and I customized them for this name tag version so many thanks to all the people who contributed to this. PrintingFor the Base with your customized name you exported, you may want to add a color change for the text (at 4.1 mm). I would recommend a 0.15 mm quality, 15% infill, no support. Ironing the top surface will make your text look nicer. For the Top, I've included the Gcode files with the layer changes. You also have the .3MF files with all color changes included and you can customize it the way you want.Some of these tops could be fairly sophisticated when it comes to printing. You want at least 2 colors but some of them could have up to 6 change of colors. I would recommend a 0.15 mm quality, 15% infill.The top is printing with support because of the pivot you need to open the name tag. The support is easy to remove on this model, don't forget to also clean the hole of the pivot where you will put the screw.PLA is perfect and easy to print for these models. Silk PLA is adding a nice touch to it. AssemblyTo assemble the base and the top you will need 2 magnets 6x3 mm and one screw M3x6. I know it is always painful having to add none 3D printed items but they are easy to get and it's the only way to have a robust, snappy and very unique name tag (I have been traveling a lot and never broke one).The magnets give a very nice feeling when you open and close your name tag and it will keep the name tag closed when you travel so people don't see your name unless they need to.The holes in the base and top are tight (6 mm diameter like the magnet) so you don't need glue. You may have to apply some force or/and some cleaning but it does work if you have a good printer (MK3S+ for me).
