The Trifecta Desk Organizer: A desk organizer based on the stable shape of a triangle Contains: - two compartments for storing papers, calculators, anything that takes up significantly more space - a top trench for all miscellaneous items - a standoff for rings, keys, and other hangable items - two side ledges for pencils pens - the iPad stand, elevating and keeping the iPad upright so that students do not have to bend over to look at it and can view it from a safe distance, comes with a pencil ledge below for each of access (i) What issues did you come up against? - I came up against the issue of keeping the iPad upright. Solving this problem required measurements of the iPad as well as the angle between the two ledges that hold the iPad up. There was also the issue of making it large enough to hold papers. This was solved quickly by making the triangle base the same width to fit 8.5'' x 11'' sheets of paper. (ii) If you could redesign this again what would you change? - I would make another, more compact design for smaller desks and devices. I would also like to change some dimensions around so that it fits more ergonomically in the average desk. Another idea I would implement is to break down the project into interlocking parts, making it easily transportable and simple to manufacture, even when using extremely small printers. (iii) How would 3D printing help strengthen your design? - It would allow me to choose the fill, or the density of the material, adjusting the weight so that this large, multi-purpose organizational tool does not weigh too much. This is beneficial because there will be large amounts of paper inside the tool, so weight is an important category to minimize while still keeping its structural integrity.
