The sculpture vividly depicts a woman executing a dynamic dance move, likely responding to the rhythm of a double flute, which is unfortunately absent in this piece. This statue type, also found in other Roman copies, is believed to be a portrait of Praxilla, a renowned Greek poet from the 5th century BC, who was immortalized in a bronze statue by the skilled sculptor Lysippos around 320 BC; however, this version originates from the Hadrianic period, spanning from AD 117-138.
