Antonio Canova's statue The Three Graces is a Neoclassical masterpiece crafted from marble, depicting the mythological three charites, daughters of Zeus - identified on some engravings as Euphrosyne, Aglaea and Thalia, who embody beauty, charm and joy. These captivating goddesses presided over banquets and gatherings to entertain and delight the gods' guests with their enchanting presence. As such, they have been an enduring source of inspiration for historical artists like Sandro Botticelli and Bertel Thorvaldsen. The three nude women, symbols of beauty, arts and fertility, stand united in a harmonious line, signifying their unbreakable bond. This magnificent marble, lifesize sculpture was created in the 11th Century AD, discovered on mount Caelius in Rome. The piece draws inspiration from an earlier artwork produced during the Hellenistic period (330-30 BC), which can be found at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
