The Three Graces at The Louvre, Paris

The Three Graces at The Louvre, Paris

myminifactory

The three Graces, goddesses of beauty in Greek Mythology, are typically depicted nude, embracing each other tightly by the arm, with their central figure turned away from the viewer's gaze. Pradier closely followed a composition devised by Italian sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1822), who innovatively positioned all three figures to face the same direction. The classicism of Pradier's craftsmanship is strikingly evident in this piece, emphasizing their sensuality and refinement. Purchased by the Minister of the Maison du Roi on September 27th, 1831. Transferred from storage at the Musée National du Chateau de Versailles to the Louvre Museum in 1928.
