The Three Graces at The Louvre, Paris
cults3d
The Graces, deities of beauty in Greek Mythology, are usually presented in the nude, holding each other by the arm, and with the central figure facing away from the spectator. Pradier followed the composition coined by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova (1757-1822) who turned all three figures to face the same way. The classicism of Pradier's technique is clearly shown in this work, highlighting their sensuality and elegance. Acquired by the minister of the Maison du Roi, 27th September 1831. In the storage of the Musee National du Chateau de Versailles in 1928 and entered the Louvre in 1928.
