The Thinker at the Fountain

The Thinker at the Fountain

In 2012, I assembled a 3D printer from recycled printer and PC components, successfully printing three objects in December. Since then, I've been honing my software skills. Using Blender, I combined .stl files for a Thinker and a Fountain, rendering the displayed image. The Thinker file originated from MIT CSAIL database via lampmaker on Thingiverse, while the Fountain file was commissioned by robmyers on Thingiverse from dustycloud.org. As of 26th January 2013, I had not yet checked these untested .stl files for errors or printed them on a 3D printer. On Jan 27th, I replaced the .stl file with a new one containing content. Updates were provided in the following two weeks after attempting to print the file. However, on March 6th, I completed the printout but faced challenges in cooling the extruded filament fast enough to prevent drooping, especially with my printer. To resolve this issue, I redesigned the .stl file so that the Thinker sat in the Fountain; this printed well except for the tubes at either end (10cm length). Netffab-basic was used to check and repair the revised .stl file.
