The Things That We Do - Ethiopia - Wedding

The Things We Do is a global design initiative that delves into the intricate bond between human behavior and inanimate objects. Traditionally, the distinct characteristics of daily routines such as consuming food, resting, socializing, and engaging in leisure activities have significantly influenced the creation of objects we utilize on a daily basis. This project originates in East Africa, the birthplace of human civilization. It's a collaborative effort between British design studio NEON and Kenyan furniture company 98 Crafted. Both NEON and 98 Crafted are deeply concerned with how design is intertwined with local culture and worry about the homogenization of cultures worldwide. Through the art of storytelling, they will uncover and translate local customs into objects co-designed with skilled artisans. The project aims to preserve cultural diversity by highlighting unique traditions and habits from around the world. The Things We Do project will be showcased during Design Week Addis Ababa (February 11-17, 2019) and Nairobi Design Week (March 17-23, 2019).
