The Sphere
grabcad
Here’s my version of the GrabCad meeting room, I feel that an office type setting is a bit sterile and formal so I went for a more warm relaxed feel, you know, somewhere you could chill and brainstorm or have some alone time, something like that. The design is a bit ’out there’ but I thought, hey what the heck and I enjoyed designing it! Now, I’m no Architect but I think it’s doable, there are eight sphere panel segments I was thinking they would be made from 50mm thick polystyrene with a timber veneer this would be pretty sound dampening and light, the structure would be self supporting, as for fastening the sphere together, I have no idea :P I left an opening in the top and the doorway open (door optional) for air circulation, some random domed windows/skylights for more light and the seating would be modular mdf bases, some sort of faux leather seat cushioning as shown and a coffee table in the centre, with everyone getting a tablet these days I thought who needs paper to write on so out went the traditional board room table....I just made that up, truthfully.....I didn't have the space. I added the funky bookshelf’s which makes the sphere look like it’s just about to launch into outer space :) This is just a concept so feel free to change or improve as you please, revisions are welcome. I did a little research and you can get big polystyrene segments made, for example this mob in the UK http://www.grahamsweet.com/2008/polystyrene-shapes/polystyrene-styrofoam-balls-spheres.php The domed windows/skylights would be a thermoformed acrylic or polycarbonate. Cheers
