The renowned Greek sculptor Yannoulis Chalepas was born in Pyrgos, a picturesque town on the island of Tinos, in 1851 to a family of skilled marble craftsmen. Between 1869 and 1872, he honed his artistic talents at the prestigious School of Arts in Athens under the tutelage of the accomplished Neoclassical sculptor Leonidas Drossis. In 1873, Chalepas secured a scholarship from the esteemed Panhellenic Holy Foundation of the Evangelistria of Tinos to pursue further studies at the renowned Munich Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of the illustrious Neoclassical sculptor Max von Widnmann. However, his scholarship was unexpectedly diverted to another student, forcing Chalepas to return to Athens in 1876, where he established a workshop and embarked on a solo artistic journey.
