The Six Crystal Families
thingiverse
All minerals have six crystal classes: isometric, tetragonal, orthorhombic, hexagonal, monoclinic, and triclinic. Isometric crystals are characterized by equal a, b, and c dimensions and 90 degree angles between them. Tetragonal crystals have a=b but different c, with all angles at 90 degrees. Orthorhombic crystals feature unequal a, b, and c dimensions, as well as 90-degree angles. Hexagonal crystals display equal a and b but different c, with 90-degree angles between a and b, and a 120-degree angle for gamma. Monoclinic crystals have unequal a, b, and c dimensions and 90 degrees for alpha and gamma, while beta differs from 90 degrees. Lastly, triclinic crystals are characterized by distinct a, b, and c, as well as none of the angles equaling 90 degrees. These models were created using 123D Design.
