The simple COVID mask
thingiverse
Human: Hi everyone,\r\n\r\nAs someone in Europe, I'm facing a lack of protective gear just like many others. Since I have to stay at home, it's not a huge issue for me personally.\r\nHowever, my wife is on the front lines as an emergency nurse, and we're running low on vital protective supplies.\r\n\r\nI've been searching for simple printed masks, but all I could find required multiple fragile parts and assembly.\r\nThat's why I designed a one-part mask that allows you to add any material you prefer (cloth, towel, cotton...). It stays in place with a rubber band.\r\nIf you're unsure about the right material, check out this study from Cambridge University here:\r\nhttps://www.researchgate.net/publication/258525804_Testing_the_Efficacy_of_Homemade_Masks_Would_They_Protect_in_an_Influenza_Pandemic#pf7\r\nFor a simpler version, look at this article here:\r\nhttps://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/\r\n\r\nThis part is based on Federico Badiali's work that I found here:\r\nhttps://grabcad.com/library/covid-mask-mk3-1\r\n\r\nOnce you print the part, follow these steps:\r\n- Check if the mask covers your face roughly. If not, use a hot air gun to shape it correctly.\r\n- Add some adhesive foam for a better fit and comfort.\r\n- Test for air leaks by blocking the output and adjust the foam as needed.\r\n- Find rubber bands or rope to attach the mask securely to your face.\r\n\r\nI've tried using a doubled-layered dish towel, and it works fine. Next, I'll try using a vacuum cleaner bag...\r\n\r\nStay safe out there!
