The Silent Fan
thingiverse
Well, summer is back again and it's too hot to sleep soundly. So I constructed an enclosure for two 92mm silent PC fans. They are rated at 12V DC but I power them with a 5V DC power source. This way they remain very quiet and the gentle breeze they generate is perfect for sleeping or working in the office. It can be printed without support lying flat on the front side. Routing the cables through the channels/holes requires some patience. Connect all parts to wires and run the wires through the hole in the bottom. Then push the rest of the wires inside. I attached a piece of 1cm thick self-adhesive vibration-dampening rubber foam to the underside that also seals the hole in the bottom. Power connection is through barrel plugs. The female board-mounted plug comes from an inline female plug without the screw-on plastic cover and was glued in place. The fans are pressed in tightly so it's a rather snug fit. Keep this in mind if your printer has poor tolerances.
