Charles Sargeant Jagger, an English sculptor, joined the army in 1914 and fought valiantly in Turkey and France before being awarded the Military Cross for his bravery during World War I in 1918. As a decorated officer from the First World War, he was highly sought after to create war memorials following the conflict's conclusion. His powerful sculptures were inspired by his own harrowing experiences in the trenches. This smaller memorial showcases Jagger's craftsmanship, modeled after the iconic 1921 tribute that stands proudly at the Britannia Hotel in Manchester.
