The Secret of Monkey Island I - 1990

Many say the heyday of point-and-click adventure games was the release of Monkey Island I, following hits like Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders. LucasArts and Ron Gilbert joined forces once more to launch this clear evolution of previous games produced by Ron and LucasArts. The idea to produce Monkey Island came from a trip to the Disney Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. In 1988, he obtained permission to work on the project, but soon after, LucasArts assigned Ron Gilbert to another successful game, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, also an adventure released in 1989 with the film. In 1990, Monkey Island was launched, telling the story of Guybrush Threepwood, an aspiring pirate who gets into big trouble trying to become a true pirate. Along his journey, he crosses paths with the ghost of the feared pirate LE CHUCK, his arch-nemesis who won't leave him alone.
