The Muse, the woman, appears to be a seductive, flexible, agile figure. She bends over the body of the man, the sculptor, and whispers in his ear while draping her long hair over his head. The woman, being the personification of creativity and inspiration for the artist, is a torment for him. The sculptor, tries to push her away, he covers her mouth and contorts his body trying to get away from her. This overall sculpture represents how Rodin saw the inspiration and creativity as both beauty and torment.
