The imposing bronze sculpture of St. George rides triumphantly over a defeated dragon, his spear thrust deep into the beast's maw, situated in the third courtyard of Prague Castle within the Czech Republic. Elevated on a sturdy pedestal in the center of a sleek, shallow fountain created by J. Plečnik to replace an original Baroque water feature taken down and relocated to George Square in the 1990s, the statue stands proud. The original masterpiece is safely housed within the National Gallery's collections, while the current installation is a 1967 reproduction. St. George's stature as one of the Czech Republic's most celebrated Gothic sculptures remains unchallenged, with his steed positioned in a dynamic pose, its hind leg raised in mid-stride as the dragon's tail curls around it, frozen in mortal terror as the spear pierces its open mouth.
