The Ringses 6e (March 2007)
sketchfab
Prehistoric carved bedrock is discovered on private farmland in The Ringses area of Doddington Moor, East of Doddington, Northumberland. This exposed outcrop is one of several carvings located east of the multivallate Iron Age hillfort known as The Ringses. The Beckensall Archive references this site as 'The Ringses 6e' and describes it with a single cup marking. In 2008, NADRAP added the record to ERA's database. It appears that the carver deliberately placed the cup in the center of an area to give the impression of an irregular natural ring. When viewed with Matcap, the carving takes on new depth and dimension. The Historic England scheduling for this site can be accessed at https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1418072. Additional information is available through ERA and the Beckensall Archive at https://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/era/section/panel/overview.jsf?eraId=35. A 3D model of this site was created from a single stereo pair captured by Joe Gibson in March 2007, as part of the ERA/NADRAP archive deposited with Historic England and Northumberland County Council.
