The Red Scourge was a massive paddlewheeled vessel from Thay that dominated the Alamber Sea. Boasting 24 light bombards and 9 light ballistae, this revamped design boasts additional firepower in the form of extra light ballistae and 4 heavy ballistae. In contrast to its traditional counterpart, the newer Red Scourge features glassteel windows within a sturdy brick and mortar outer layer that conceals an inner wall of metal, infused with gorgon's blood. Atop the lower structure is a round tower, whose windows can be opened from within while surrounded by permanent black lights, allowing occupants to see out but keeping outsiders in the dark. It is widely acknowledged that during the Thayan Civil War, this vessel was outfitted with a modified dwarven forge helm capable of harnessing energy for crafting minor magics and alchemical components such as smoke powder, alchemist's fire, bombard fluid, etc. As a result, the ship was filled with apprentice wizards from the Guild of Foreign Trade. The Red Scourge's whereabouts during the civil war remain shrouded in mystery, but it is known to have vanished after the spellplague. Some speculate that it disappeared into Abeir, while whispers circulate about its alleged return to Faerun, adorned with at least one dragon's head attached to its mast, bearing several holes as if inflicted by bombard fire.
