The Red Mountain

The Big Red Mountain towers above Ivins, Utah, a city that's constantly expanding northward towards its base. I spent part of my youth in this area, where the mountain looms large. The name may seem ironic since it's not actually huge - you can climb it within just a couple of hours. Still, while technically a mountain by definition, it's more like a unique half-plateau that defies easy categorization. Whatever label you give it, this place is breathtakingly beautiful and holds a special place in my heart. A quick note: A roughly 1.2-mile stretch of sheer cliff-face runs from the west side of the mountain to its northeast corner, where a State Park offers stunning views.
