Duchess Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of King Frederick William III, ruled Prussia with great happiness despite their short marriage of nine children. The future monarchs Frederick William IV of Prussia and German Emperor Wilhelm I grew up under her loving care. This portrait shows her resting peacefully, a year after she passed away, possibly to honor her memory forever.
