The Quantum Delta Printer

The Quantum Delta Printer

At Chicago's Pumping Station One hackerspace, a small group embarked on a fun project to build an ultra-simple delta 3D printer. The miniature device, just 100mm in diameter and 50mm tall, was more about the enjoyment of constructing it than its practical applications. Despite its compact size, a stationary extruder and moving print area made sense for this design. In fact, when tested upside down, it still functioned properly, as demonstrated in a video (http://youtu.be/mS2b9j2ok0M). The entire process, along with the source files, is detailed on a blog post (http://www.buildlog.net/blog/2013/04/the-quantum-delta-3d-printer/) to aid others in recreating this unique printer. Since then, the creator has added several enhancements including a magnetic base for easier access, a lazy susan filament feeder, and lighting. Surprisingly, this tiny delta 3D printer now produces the best prints among all the various printers available to the creator.
